Following a mob storming the US Capitol building, and social media platforms banning President Donald Trump, journalist Joseph Longo tweeted: “Digitally remove him from Home Alone 2 next.”
Trump makes a cameo in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York when the main character Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, bumps into him at the Plaza Hotel.
The director of the 1992 fan favourite, Chris Columbus, has since said Trump “did bully his way into the movie” by only agreeing the hotel which he owned at the time could be used if he made an appearance as well.
However, Columbus told Insider that the cameo went down well with audiences when it was tested: “People cheered when Trump showed up on-screen.”
In response to the recent request by Longo and others, social media users quickly took up the challenge with Trump being replaced by an array of different celebrities and character
A petition was also started to replace the president with his successor.
A couple of users have cut the cameo themselves.
And someone has already updated Home Alone 2: Lost in New York’s IMDb page.
Social media users also called for Trump to be digitally erased from other shows.
One kids classic, however, had already mocked him
Trump was previously removed from a Canadian TV broadcast of Home Alone 2, although a spokesperson said it had been “edited to allow for commercial time within the format”.
